How to get NY Driver's license?

I know that when you are 16, you get a learner's permit. But you need a parent or someone older so what's the point of getting it right? And when you are 18 you get get a driver's license? But do you have to get the learner's permit first?

absolutely you must get a learners permit first, at any age, if you have never driven a car before.

Here are the basic steps:

(1) go to DMV and pick up driver manual

(2) study

(3) go back and take the written test - pass

(4) with the learner's permit practice driving

(5) you might have to take the 5 hour class

(6) take the road test - pass

(7) be happy.

Age is irrelevant.  You need to get a permit.
