I'm buying the samsung LN-40A650

(https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0014175NE/km-20/ref=nosim) in a week or so and don't have cable. If it has an ATSC tuner and it hooks up to my antenna in the attic via coax, will I get local HD Stations? I live in PA, zip code 18969.

  1. There is an "antenna web" website (which I can't find the url for) and this one http://ww1.titantv.com/quickguide/quickg... .  There is a lot of over the air HD content and there's talk of an over the air revival.

If you are getting go luck with conventional reception from your attic antenna, you will probably get HD reception.  If you are disappoint, invest in a preamplifier, which you will install near the attic antenna to boost the signal.

HD has more of a tendency to be all or nothing.  Analog TV gets snowy with weak reception.  HD either freezes or disappears.

I'm still watching over the air analog, but I'll be going over the air HD when the change over comes.

    Best of luck.

  2. get an hd antenna or hd receiver

basicly ur attena recieves the local channels in 2-3 ways

    mine works like this

channal 10 (nbc) regular is channal number 10

    hd channal number 10.1

channal 10 alternative braodcast channal number 10.2

  3. You should have no problem pulling HD with that setup.  Not sure about the exact area, but I live in a fairly remote part of town and it's flawless.

  4. Yes, (depending what is broadcast in your area).

HDTV (imo) looks better from an anatenna than cable.

Keep the coax as short as possible.

  5. You should be fine.  I would suggest visiting http://www.antennaweb.org and putting in your ZIP code.  You will get a list of stations that you could expect to receive, suggestions on antennas for your unique situation and info on where to aim them.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
