If you mean online, you can try the freeroll tournaments on the various sites (PokerStars, FullTilt, etc.) and try to win real money.

Or you can do what I did and play for play money chips on PokerStars and build up a huge play money bankroll and sell those chips.  I had built up the max of 20 million in play money chips and sold a few at $10 (real PokerStars money) per million.  To find sites which buy PokerStars play money chips just google "sell pokerstars play money" for a list.

This is how I started my bankroll.  I then started playing the low limit tables and moved up as my bankroll allowed.
