  1. When your in Vallarta it is very easy to get a bus to GDL.  There are two main places to get busses.  One is in the PLaya Los Muertos Area and the other is close to the airport.  The main buss termnial is like two minutes north of the Airport.  Just ask for "Estacion Camionera".  I cannot help you with tours. Do you know in which part of Guadalajara you want to stay in?  There are tons of hotels for all types of budgets. Have fun and be care full.  Taxis in GDL are fine and safe, sometimes they tend to over charge. Busses are good too just be more care full.

  2. Ok, you will arrive at the main bus terminal (el centro de camiones) in guadalajara.  i recommend staying at "Hotel San Fransisco Plaza," because it's in the historic center, and rooms are about 45 USD a night.  the hotel is very charming, and the restaurant is extrememely reasonable and good.  if this hotel is full (which it won't be) there is Don Quixote just about a block down the street.  the street is called "calle degollado"  in centro historico.

you want to take a tour on the RED buses.  these buses are double decker and they are specifically for tours.  you can meet them and buy tickets at "plaza de los arcos" which is only about 2 or 3 blocks from the hotel i recommended.  oh c**p...is it plaza de los arcos??  anyways, look for a monument that is columns in a circle.  it's next to the church...very obvious, don't worry, you won't miss it.  i believe the bus company is called...trajones...i don't even think that's a real word...it's something that starts with a T.

the city buses in guadalajara are fine, but they are scary fast, and dirty.  take taxis.  they will rip you off, but it's not too bad.  (the ride from the bus station to the hotel will about anywhere from 8-12 USD)  also, i recommended to you that you stay downtown because it's closest to things you will want to see...but keep in mind, it's busy and a bit dirty, but still worth while, you don't want to miss the history.

since you are in the area, the main street you will take for restaurants, etc... is called "Vallarta"  on this street you will find "centro magno" which is a mall that has a movie theatre and a starbucks.  next to it are some nice bars.  you MUST MUST MUST go to a place called "Barriachi" which is a block away from centro magno (and about a 4 to 5 dollar cab ride from the hotel.)  this is a restaurant that that has amazing marriachi (which jalisco is famous for) every night!  and the drinks are good too!  get there about 8:30 or 9pm.  entertainment starts soon after and mariachi starts around 10:15.
