  1. It all depends on the nature of your relationship with your girlfriend.

Assuming she is an Australian citizen or PR, in order to get a fiance or spouse visa, you would need to prove (exhaustively) that you intend marrying within the next 3 to 6 months or that you had lived together in an exclusive relationship for at least 12 months. If you are unable to qualify on these grounds, your only other avenue will be to qualify under Australia's Skilled Migration scheme. For that, you need to have qualifications and/or skills and experience in an occupation in which Australia is experiencing a shortage of skilled workers. The steps to obtaining a Skilled Immigration visa are:

First step - see if your occupation is on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121...

Next step - see if it's also on the MODL (Migrant Occupations in Demand List). It doesn't need to be on the MODL, but if it is, you get more points and faster processing.

Then - take the points test and check it against the pass mark for the applicable visa

If you qualify according to the above, make your application:

  2. Citizenship isn't really the issue, it's permanent residency. The previous post has the correct links to find out how to apply. I believe you need to be married or have strong evidence of defacto relationship.

After you have lived here for some years you can apply for citizenship if you wish. Good luck

  3. Very. I'm in the same position actually, my girlfriend is there and I'm in California. I'm looking forward to seeing the answers on this though.

Here are information on Visa types for those located outside Australia though: http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/p...

  4. If your in a work skill category that's in demand, then you'd get here sooner.

But she might need to be in WA where all the companies are that are bringing people in because that''s where you would find it easiest to get to.
