How to get a city to change a speed limit?

hello, i live in a town of about 2000 people, and there is a certian speed zone of 30 mph on my way to school. I got a ticket for going 50, but EVERYONE i know says it should be a 45 zone.

i've seen angry letters to our local news papers, and heard many annoyed people talk about this speed zone, but cops like to sit there to make money off of the tickets.

is there any way to change it?

p.s. cop was really rude too

  1. If it is "Posted" 30 then it means 30, what part of that sign were you not able to either read or understand?  Most School Zones around the country have speed limits at 20 MPH.

  2. Call the county

  3. Try starting a petition. Go to petitiononline.com and write it and find ways to get locals to sign it. Go on online forums, go door to door and find as many people you can to sign it and then send it to your state legislator or whoever is in charge of the speed limits in your area.

  4. appeal the statute at a City Coucil meeting

  5. The easiest way is to start a petition get as many signatures as possible and submit it to your city council.  I would also look into what requirements your city has regarding petitions, usualy they want more then just a signature to verify the people on it are real.
