I hope you can help. Last week we were hearing something in our chimney, it sounded like a bird or a squirrel or something of that sort. Now there is a terrible, odor coming from the chimney and we cant seem to get whatever is in there out. We opened the flu (spelling?) in hopes of it falling out. We think that it had gotten stuck in the flu (spelling?) and now we cant get it out. If we have to we will call a chimney cleaner, however that is expensive, and we do not have the money right now. We were thinking of starting a fire in the fireplace but, we are afraid of making the smell worse.

Please help us this odor is foul and it is really impacting our livesThank youou.

  1. get some barb wire, put it down the chimney twist it till it entangles the squirrel pull it out,

  2. Well....I hope this works out. Try getting some really old clothes on and reaching up behind the flue door onto the little shelf that is usually there. This is where the animal is. The next thing would be to start a fire and cook it away. It will have to be a hot fire and last for a good time but this will dry it out and eliminate the smell.  Just make sure the flue is not blocked before the fire. By starting the fire the smell will be drawn outside also. The only thing is if it is warm where you are. The ac may run for a bit.
