How to get a dent out of an old truck?

well my dad was driving a while back and somebody ran into the back of his 1964 f100 and its the far back spot on the side

u can tell where the long piece of metal meets the back end part that the tailgate latches onto

ive tried looking simple things to do but im not sure that they work for such think steel

the den isnt creased really hard but its about 2 feet long and about a foot and a half tall. but its really weird because where it starts to go back up from the lowest part of the dent towards the back, its much shorter then where it heads toward the front.

so the dent isnt exactly symmetrical

anything i could do to get that dent out? i cant take it anywhere because i want it to be a suprise and i dont have the keys. ive tried using a rubber mallet but since i cant move the truck, its too hard, i cant get enough power behind it to actually do anything

thanks in advance

  1. if you start fooling with it, then you might get to where the tail gate won,t fasten.

  2. Unless ou are a bodyman forget it you`ll only make it worse!

  3. Do not try anything. You will most likely make it worse.

  4. Leave it to the pros.

  5. get a two by four and pry from the back while tapping around the edges from the front. you want to stretch the metal back into shape. you shoud be able to get it pretty close , but it will need a bit of putty to get it perfect and then repaint that section. hope this helps a bit. easier to show you then explain these things. every dent is different , so this is just the most probable fix going by the description.

  6. If you can't beat out the dent from the opposite side, the only other choice is pulling out the dent. Here's a link to a story that tells how to do it yourself:
