I really want to get a good workout out of my backyard pool. I'm not on a swim team or anything so I don't know many good strokes. My main problem is that the pool is only 4ft deep and 15ft in diameter. What can I do to get a good workout of a small pool?

  1. You don't need deep water.  Try these -

Go from one end of the pool to the other, backwards, using only your legs kicking in front of you (like a frog?)  Do this a few reps.

Then switch to just using your arms to go from one end to the other (out to your sides and draw them inward).

Leaning on the side of the pool with arms on the pool edge, kick your feet in short kicks in front of you.  A few reps.

You can do all three in order here or mix them up - they're all good exercises for water.

Water resistence is a great form of exercise.  Be creative - find ways to move in the water where you feel resistence and do reps of that.  You'll feel and see results in no time.
