i'm a ballet dancer and i really long for nice arches in my feet. i have an arch but not quite visible and not high enough. i want those nice feet with a natural curve that makes pointing more elegant. and is there any way to make my feet longer. plus i have rolling foot, that means my ankles rolls inward. normal feeth is straight from the leg to the base, but mine rolls inward before the soles. how can i correct it?

and what does it mean by a natural turn out? how do you know if you have a natural turn out? and how to make my turn outs better?

  1. I didn't really develop my arches until i started to work on them at the beginning of this year. My new dance teacher is totally obsessed with having beautiful arches. So don't listen to the other answer because you can do something about it. Some students use a footstretch, but they are expensive and i can't really see the point. This is what mine look like now i can now touch the floor with my toes when pointing down to the ground with legs flat on the ground.

it won't let me post the pic sorry :(

I did lots of tendus and really worked on my footwork and got a friend to try to lightly push on my foot to get it to touch the ground until i could do it myself. I have a naturally high instep so i am unsure what to do about your rolling foot problem. The turm out can be easily fixed. Even though it sounds weird you could put on a pair of running shoes or shoes with grip on the bottom and stand on a wood floor and turn out. this will cause resistance in the shoes and stretch your foot out. It's what my ballet teacher asked us all to do. Just stand still in 1st position for 5 minutes and do this a few times with breaks inbetween. IT REALLY WORKED FOR ME!!

hope i answered your question i'm only 15. And good luck do you do ballet?

  2. professionals with your problem go to the doctor to get their foot broken giving it that beautiful arch. My sister sat with the tv on her feet al day as an alternative. good luck : )

  3. Your turn out will improve with practice and daily barre exercises (especially plenty of full and demi pliés). Unfortunately if you didn't start ballet from a very young age there is nothing you can do with regard to your foot arch. A ballet type figure develops over time with constant practice. You can still be balletic and a beautiful dancer, you don't need to worry about your arch, unless you have completely flat feet (making pointe work painful) you have nothing to worry about. Practice every day! Good luck.

  4. i don't think there is any way to get longer feet. i do know a stretch for ur arches though that will increase your arch: sit on the ground and put your feet in front of you, then have someone take your foot and put their hand on top of the very end of the arch and their other hand behind the lowest part of the leg, have them push down until u get a stretch, let it stretch for a while. u have to do this stretch for a while and a lot and then u will see a difference in your arch (not rite away though). to get ur ankles to stop rolling in i think u need to strengthen them a little bit. do a lot of releves in all positions while having good turnout (that is what i have to do in my classes). natural turnout is just when turn out is in your muscle memory and u dont have to be constantly thinking about it. ull know when u teacher stops reminding u to turn out or when u realize that u r always turning out.  turn out is rotation of the thighs going outward and your knees not going inward. just continue to work on turning out and then gradually it will become natural for u and u will be getting better positions like a fifth position (mine stinks i need to work on turnout). turnout is something that i struggle with too.
