I am really interested in being a layout designer for a magazine, preferably a fashion magazine like Vogue or Elle or a music based magazine like SPIN or Fader. I need more information on how to get internships and which major and college I should pursue to accomplish my DREAM! I'm applying for colleges this fall for fall 2009.

  1. Do lots of internships. Take fashion classes. Major in journalism and minor in fashion. Do the school paper. To be in Vogue or Elle you really need to know someone. As with all journalism jobs, you need to start at the bottom and work your way up.

  2. If you're primarily interested in being a layout designer, be sure to take lots of classes in art and graphic design.  A double major of graphics and journalism would serve you very, very well.  Choose a college or university that has strong departments in both.

  3. Make sure you take the right classes, study hard, and look for internships. In the mean time you should enter this dream job contest i also recently entered and you can win the chance to be a journalist for a day!
