Question:

How to get a rusty s***w out?

I was taking out my glass shower doors to put a curtain in instead. So I was removing the track that the doors go onto and I have 1 s***w left that I need to take out to get rid of the rest of the frame. The s***w is very rusty and I can't get my s***w driver to work with it and I can't use a vice grip or anything like that because around the s***w is a rubber circle so that the doors wouldn't hit it. How do I take it out?

  1. You may try drilling off the head of the s***w. Then could you remove the frame?  Use a drill bit about half the size of the srew head.

  2. This website seems to be a good place on explaining how to get rid of a rusty s***w.

  3. Try to work WD-40 or 3 in 1 oil around it and let it penetrate overnight.  You may be able to remove the s***w with your s***w driver.

You might also be able to pry the gasket off the frame so you can get at the s***w.

  4. You might first try to destroy the rubber washer, either by cutting it, or yanking at it and tearing it with pliers and then see if you can't get a good purchase on the exposed s***w head with your pliers or vice grips.

If that won't work, then the "nuclear solution" would be to select a drill bit around the same diameter as the head of the s***w, or at least one that is thicker than the shaft of the s***w and drill into the s***w head until you go right through it and the s***w will be left without a head. You can then remove the track and try again with the pliers or vice grips to grip the remaining length of s***w. If the s***w is sunk into wall, or a wall anchor, you can sink it below the surface with a hammer and then patch. If it was screwed into tile, obviously you'll want to be more careful how you remove it.
