How to get a sony handycam video on windows movie maker.?

I just got this camera about 3 days ago, and i have been trying to put the videos on windows movie maker so i could edit it, and stuff. But whenever i try to, it says that i need to download a codec thing, and I'm not sure which one it means. If there is any other ways to get the movies on windows movie maker, please tell me!!!

WMM supports .avi, .wmv, .mpg, .asf video.

Make sure if your video is compatible with wmm.

If not, some video converters can help you, like wondershare video converter, which can convert popular format video to each other.
