I know I need a passport and also, do I need a visa? I am plannin on staying for well over 3 months and the ETA electronic aussie visa or whatever is for MAXIMUM 3 months. What do I need to get for anything past 3 months and how much does it cost, and how do I get it?

You can get a visa into Australia for as long as you like, my boyfriend recently got a visa for 1 year working holiday in Australia (meaning, he can stay for up to 1 year, and also have casual work), and he is in the UK at the moment. You do have to pay, and the amount varies as to your type of visa, but just visit http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/ for the kinds of visa that would suit you the most, and they will give you a rough quote as to how much it will cost you.

Australia has many types of visa, normally tourist visas are only valid for three months stay (regardless of the validation of your visa) you can only stay in Australia for three months, if you want to stay more then you should check the different types of visas at http://www.immi.gov.au and choose the suitable visa for you
