  1. Only drive down hill!

  2. I tried driving 5 miles slower for a week and saved about 3 gallons... my car gets great milage already so give it a shot...results might be better. or join a carpool, or ride the bus, or a bike... :)

  3. check the air pressure in your tires ( statistics show as much as 20% better mpg for properly inflated tires)and make sure you have your vehicle regularly maintained. all fluids changed at right time intervals oil etc.. keep your car clean, extra weight can really, really down your mpg, and drive normally you don't have to drive like a grandma but you don't have to get to 55 in 6 seconds either.... if you have a truck maybe smaller tires not necessarily smaller just narrower. i drive a restored 1972 Chevy pickup with an 8inch lift i get about 15-18mpg by getting tires 2inches smaller i got 4 more mpg. good luck its way cheap and easy.

  4. Keep your tires at the correct pressure. Don't tailgate, it forces you to speed up and slow down too much. Keep your speed as steady as possible. Again, the more you speed up and slow down the more fuel you use. If you have a cruise control, use it. Even the best driver can't do as well as a cruise control. Don't speed. Your car gets the best mileage at somewhere between 40 and 60 miles per hour. Make sure you have a new air filter once or twice a year. Make sure you have a decent fuel filter. If you can't remember ever changing it, perhaps it's time. Try to plan trips so you don't have to start and stop so much. Avoid rush hour stop and go traffic if you can. Leave a little earlier, there's usually less traffic. Don't haul 200 pounds of c**p in the trunk of your car. The less weight you have to accelerate, the better. No jackrabbit starts. Don't use anything but the minimum octane fuel your car needs. Anything more is a waste of money. Leave a lot of space between you and the car ahead, because the closer you are the more you're on and off the brake and the gas. I use all these tips every day, and I get 31 miles per gallon out of a Neon that my leadfoot wife could only get 23 out of.

  5. keep your tires max inflated.

    keep your windows up.

Use ac as little as possible.

Excellerate as slow as posssible from a standstill.

Try to coast to stop lights and stop signs

Stay under 55 mph anything more starts to use considerable gas.

Try to use routes with as little stops as possible.

Use cruise control as much as possible

  6. drive slower
