Question:

How to get black hair dye out quicker?

I have medium brown hair naturally and I love how black hair looks on girls with pale skin so I decided to dye my hair black with a dye that lasts 24-28 washes. However, now I see how fake it looks and I realize I should have gotten it done professionally. I want it to come out quickly. I can't dye/bleach it because I don't want to admit I don't like it. I figured to first stop using shampoo/conditioner for color treated hair.

Any tips?

  1. I've had plenty of experience with (unintentionally!) lightening my hair color after dying it, by doing things such as:

-Wash your hair with a commercial non "fade-resistant" shampoo. I've heard from various sources that dandruff shampoo (i.e., Head & Shoulders) does a better job with stripping hair dye than anything - because the chemicals in it are so strong.

-Take baths instead of showers - a lot of hair dye comes out naturally with contact w/ water. (So, swim more too if you can!)

-Hot oil treatments and "home remedies" (such as experimenting with hydrogen peroxide and lemon juice) have been said to work too in at least lightening your color a little bit.

However - black honestly takes a while to get out of your hair, especially if you're reluctant to have it bleached or stripped. If you want it done quickly, I'm afraid you'll have to go to a salon or buy a hair-stripping kit.
