  1. Go to your local pet store and pick up this stuff called "nature's miracle"-  my cat gets frequent UTIs and lets me know he has one by peeing on my couch (and sometimes floor).  The solution has enzymes in it that pull the stain up.- it may stain your stuff a little (this only happened when i used a whole big bottle on my couch).  Use it generously- it typically costs between 10-15$.  you can pick it up at any major pet store (ir petco and petsmart)- good luck!

  2. I strongly suspect the problem went on long before they moved out and that the previous owners allowed thee animals to pee and p**p in the house for a very long time.  I have two ideas.

It could be they had male cats and the males backed up to the wall and sprayed.  If so, it might have seeped into the drywall and baseboards and that's where the smell is coming from.  You might sniff around and see if that is the case.  If there are a few spots where this has happened, it might be worth having a drywall contractor remove and patch the drywall in those places and replaster those few spots and fix the baseboards.  A bit of a pain, but it's worth considering that it's not just coming from the floor.

If it is definitely the floor, you can pay a carpet installer to carefully pull up your new carpet and pad and then you can treat the floor with both bleach and then paint the entire floor - two coats if you can.  Then have the carpet relaid and perhaps have it cleaned for good measure.  That should do it .  The carpet and pad itself shouldn't have a big problem if it was never directly peed on itself - it's just a matter of treating the floor below.

  3. to get rid of the smell you can sprinkle iodized salt all over the floor and make sure you get the closet. make sure to get it everywhere and put down a good amount. then after having the salt there for about a day. get one of the steamer vacuums (you can rent them) and wash the carpet to get the salt up. this should eliminate most of the smell

  4. If you have hardwood floors under the carpet, you are out of luck because the urine soaks into the wood and sub flooring. The only remedy would be to replace the floors. Now if you have a cement foundation, the urine may be in the baseboards as cats sometimes back up to walls and spray. You will need to get down on your hands and knees and sniff it find the locations. Good luck.

  5. Zonrox or vinegar.

  6. Bissell Pet stain and Oder remover-- Pink Spray bottle--you get it in the Steam cleaner/ Vacuum Isle at Wal-Mart.  Gets out ANY and all stains and smells.  I know  I have 7 dogs and 4 cats--and my house is VERY clean!  Also try Fabreeze  Pet oder remover for EXTRA freshness--It's pretty good!

  7. i was wondering the same thing lol i have 2 female cats and one of them insists the living room rug is her litter box! i have tried everything to get the smell out but nothing seems to completely remove it. one trick i have learned though is to use a black light to find the areas she has peed on that are already dry. it really glows! if i find something for the actual smell i will get back to you.

  8. Try using vinegar. Put it in a spray bottle and saturate the area. Then sop it up. If that fails, try steam cleaning or some kind of carpet cleaning machine.

  9. we have the same problem and what we have done is put boxes of baking soda around the room. it wont hurt the child if they get at it (although i wouldnt leave it accessible)
