I have just moved to NZ and although our landline gives us good rates at the weekend, I am really homesick and want to chat to my friends and family as much as I can but the landline is very expensive during the week and my mobile is just pay as you go and so is very expensive to use?

  1. I'm not so sure. All I can say is that you have made the right decision moving to new zealand. Don't worry you won't be home sick for ever. Maybe ask some of your family to go there for a holiday!

    Cheers

  2. You can use calling cards like Yabba or Kia Ora which are sold at most gas stations, dairies and grocery stores.  They can be 'topped up' with your credit card.  My calls to US are usually about 5c a minute.  I think calls to UK and Ireland are similar.

  3. There is the option of SKYPE.

Otherwise I'd recomend ringing up your phone provider and having a chat with them about your options. They often allow plans than mean you can have cheap calling anytime. You will just have to talk to them about what the plans and prices are and work them out.

Or check out their website, you're probably on telecom, most people are so check out www.telecom.co.nz

  4. Have a look at jajah.com

You register for free. Log in and on the website you type in the number you want to call.

Then Jajah first calls you. When you picked up, jajah calls the other number and connects you both.

The good thing is, you don't need your computer after dialing any more - it's landline to landline!

Even better is, if both caller are registered with jajah, you got 150 minutes for free each day I think!

  5. Connect to SKYPE (downloadable) - it cant be cheaper

  6. I'm in Australia and I ring Ireland every day.I use a calling credit that that works out that it costs me 2 cents a minute to ring an Irish land line and I get100 minutes to an Irish mobile(any mobile net work) for $10.You best bet is to go to your local newsagent or any where where they sell phone credit.
