How to get cheapest flights?

Hi,

I want to fly to LA in July from Dublin but the flights are all extremely expensive.

Can anyone give me tips on how I can get cheaper ones?

Irleand, and all of Europe for that matter, is going to be pricey in July. The only way to get cheap flights is to go in the off season, which is fall and winter.

Be flexible.

Check different dates.  Wednesdays are often cheapest.  It's also cheapest if you buy 2-6 months in advance.  And, as the previous answerer said, July is peak season so demand has made prices higher.

Check different airports - if LAX-Dublin or LAX-Boston-Dublin are both $400 more than say San Diego-Chicago-Dublin, are you willing to drive down to San Diego?  Or, are you willing to fly into Shannon instead of Dublin?  Or both?  Keep in mind the price of gas and the value of your time, but for $400 I'd do it.

You can go on sale websites like travelzoo.com or kayak.com (click "buzz"), but that's a crapshoot.

That's about it - there's no magic industry secret to get dirt-cheap fares.  Jet fuel has gone up just like gasoline has.  Flights are expensive.

See what vacation packages are offered and book the trip that way.  Sometimes the vacation package is less than just purchasing an airline ticket.
