A dark blue sweatshirt (which was washed for the first time) stained the white parts of other things that were washed with it. Now all that was once white is now light blue. How can I get the dye out from my other clothes?

  1. first try bleach.  put the item in the washing machine with about a cup of beach and see if that works.

    the manufacturers of the dye probably make a dye remover.  go online and look up the manufacturer or go back to the store and see if they have the dye remover.

  2. First just wash in HOT water. (If your water heater is turned down to 120°F for safety, turn it back up to 140°F, temporarily.) Many dyes are only loosely associated with the fiber, which is why they bleed in the laundry. Hot water will remove a lot of the dye. This might be all you have to do! If merely washing in hot water doesn't do the trick, try soaking it in hot water, and then rewash.

    If some unwanted dye still remains, you can use OxyClean or OxyBoost or any other oxygen-based cleaner. You can use one of these cleaners in the first step with the hot water if you like.

    If, after that, some unwanted dye still remains, you can buy a product called Rit Color Remover; most grocery stores and pharmacies in the US carry it. Do not use this step first, since it may remove some of the original colors of the garments. Try Rit Color Remover only after trying hot hot water, and after trying oxygen-based cleaners. You may need to use two boxes at once if your washing machine is large. It's easy to use; just follow the instructions on the package, using the hottest water you can. Other brands of this product are Carbona Run Remover and Dylon Run Away.

    Do not use household chlorine bleach (hypochlorite) unless every piece of clothing is one hundred percent cotton, linen, or hemp. Chlorine bleach will destroy synthetic fibers such as polyester, spandex, and nylon, as well as animal fibers such as silk and wool.

  3. look in the store on the shelf for Ritz Dyes. They make a stain/dye remover for whites;

  4. Rub the liquid detergent gently into stain ,rinse thoroughly.Soak in solution of all -fabric powdered bleach and water .you can try liquid chlorine bleach  also

  5. Don't use that dye remover.  It will strip color out of everything.  Been there-done that.

    Use a bleach made for colors and one of those color absorbing cloths that are made by the dryer sheet people.  Can't think of the name, but they work great.  I use them in with my red shirt that has white trim & it still comes out red & white.

  6. you could try bleaching the clothing that used to be white
