  1. Actually the Fair Credit Reporting Act does NOT say that any tradeline MUST be reported, it only dictates that the listings be accurate. Any company who inserts a tradeline can legally remove it just as easily.

The thing you need to remember is that YOU have the advantage as you have the money they want. Try talking to a supervisor or someone else, but do not pay until you can the pay for delete agreement in writing.

If they are still not working with you, you can try a nondisclosure agreement, which basically states you will pay on the debt but they are not allowed to disclose any details about the account, including verifying the account when faced with a dispute from the credit bureaus. Non-disclosures have become more common as the credit bureaus have "supposedly" been getting upset about the pay for delete agreements.

  2. they cannot remove the reporting. they can show paid --Fair Credit Reporting Act. It is law

  3. There is no way you can force them to remove the item.

Pay for deletes work best with single entry items like cell phone, utility, and medical bills.  The entry is usually just the collection agency and they tend to readily agree to the delete.

However, if you are dealing with the collection department of the original creditor, especially credit cards, you are less likely to get them to agree.  Credit card companies rely on the accuracy and completeness of the info in credit files.

  4. golfer.....you really should read the source of your information first before answering questions.

So tell me....where in the Fair Credit Reporting Act does it say a creditor can not delete an entry they posted themselves?

Where in the service agreement with the credit bureaus does it say that?

I suggest you take a look at section 607(a)7(e) that makes it clear a creditor is NOT required to post negative information to a credit report.  Sort of blows a hole in your answer, doesn't it?

To answer this question....unfortunately there is no way you can force a creditor to remove it.  They are only required to update your account to show "paid" and have a zero balance.

The only reason they are keeping it on your report is to punish you.  But if they want their money it's a fair compromise.
