Can I turn my dish towards the direction of the city I want to get channels from, or something like that? The city I get local channels from now is literally the same distance away from the city I want.

  1. No.

The local channels you recieve from dish or direct tv and based on your zip code and what the local brodcast area.

Unfortunetly the government the FCC dictates what local channels you can recieve. You are only allowed to get the local brodcast feeds.

Example for me in southeren NH I get the Boston channel feeds for my local channels. I cannot get the Los Angelas feeds or any others.

Moving your dish will only cause you to loose sync with the satalite so don't do it unless you want to lose your signal.

  2. Unless we are talking about a different region, Dish in the US is based on Satellite technology.

Get an off-the-air antenna to get your local stations,
