How to get dog to give up his bone?

Question

So everyone knows that dogs are protective of bones.

My 5 months old puppy sometimes find bones on the ground and just half swallows them. I try to pry his mouth open but he just growls at me.

I need to know of I can get a bone out of his mouth without trading it for a treat.

He kind of knows the 'drop' command, but does anyone know how to get him to give up the bone altogether?

I have dogs at home, and I never get a bone from her mouth bcoz I know how bone matters to them.. Forget it , for sure he will keep it somewhere.

I just take it away from my dog. She tried that growling thing twice. I jerked her collar and told her "no". Now I can go up to her a take her bone without problems. If they get too small, I dispose of them as I don't want it to be a choking hazard. She can only have her bones when I'm at home and can keep an eye on her.

You could get the bone by getting a water hose and wet the floor/lawn next to him. NOT at him. But if it inside, then stomp your foot hard and he will get scared and go away scared.

Consistency, if you don't want him to pick up bones from the yard, don't give him beef bones from steaks or roasts either. If you have leftover bones, or can get the bone away, try Bitter Apple or a similar product.  If he thinks the bone tastes nasty, he won't try it again.  Besides, if the bone is from a wild animal you probably don't want him to have it anyway.

maybe play ball with him. throw a ball or stick and he'll go to get that. or pour some cold water on him.

Well I have to simple solutions. You should make a high pitched squeaky noise. Since dogs ears are four times more sensitive than humans, it will startle him. Another thing to do is to pick up another toy or object and play with it to distract him from the bone. Dogs always want attention and someone to play with. Good luck!
