Question:

How to get dye out of a white shirt?

I have a shirt that is blue and white striped that has been washed hundreds of times and I have never had a problem with the color bleeding. The shirt had a stain on it that I couldn't get out so I soaked it in Oxi Clean. I followed the package directions EXACTLY. I left it to soak overnight. In the morning, what do I find? The oxi clean caused the blue in the shirt to bleed, and now the white parts are stained purple. I washed it out in the washing machine with regular detergent, which got a lot of the purple out, but there are still purple stains all over it. What can I do?!

And for those who may be wondering, the **** didn't even SLIGHTLY diminish the original stain.

  1. If it was plain white i would say bleach but from what you have described i dont think there is much you can do  sorry

  2. If the colors of the shirt have bled, you cannot do anything to fix it. A spot is one thing, but the colors are now into the fibers. The shirt's ruined.

P.S. Look at the label for OxyClean -- it PROBABLY says test a small area for colorfastness BEFORE using. Even Clorox2 says this.

  3. Rewash your shirt with your favorite detergent and a little bleach in

    your wash water.
