  1. Make a list of what needs to be done in your room to clean it. As you accomplish each thing mark it off the list and when you have completed everything write DONE in big letters across the page. You will feel good that you accomplished something. This technique works great no matter how old you are.

  2. The way I used to clean my room when I was a teen is to take everything off the walls/shelves/closet and put it on the floor. Then I would clean the closet/shelves/walls by dusting and wiping down with a anti-bacterial cloth. Then I would slowly put everything back and organize as I went along.

    Make a few piles/boxes..............label them .....

    KEEP/ TRASH/ DONATE

    Then take the trash out.............

take the donate box into another room.......

and then focus on the Keep pile.....

    make two more piles.....

    DISPLAY/STORE AWAY

If you already have a place to store away a particular item.....put it there. Keep like items together.... all the rest should be stored as I have stated below with storage tips.....

Display items should be cleaned and displayed.

HERE IS SOME MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION:

Now that I am older I can tell you that I hated cleaning my room and wish I would have organized it in a way that I would not have to work so hard each time I had to do it.

    Tips:

    End clutter mess for good.

Get some under the bed storage boxes to store things that you do not need to be 'displayed' in the room like shoes.

Get small plastic shoe boxes for the closet and label them for storing things like hair stuff, belts, scarves, holdiday stuff, pictures, small electronics, keepsakes, important papers, ...........anything you want.

Unless it is part of the room 'decor' ... it should not be out and visible. Hide it away in a storage system that is easily accessible when you need it.

Also... get shelving that goes verticle. Less big chunky furniture... go UP. The most wasted space in a room is half-way between floor and ceiling....it is a dead zone. Use it up. There are many cheap cheap cheap storage options at places like Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart....there are blocks of storage items that can be stacked as high as you need them to go. They run about $30 a piece and are worth every penny.

Use the back of closet doors to put hooks for hanging items. Use hangers to hang plastic bags....(the type you get from the grocery store with the little handles on them).... to store various items such as gloves and hats for winter.

Good luck ... I hope this helped.
