How to get eye glasses???

I'm almost 16, and I have never wear a glasses before, and I think I need to get glasses. The last eye exam I had was about a year ago, and the doctor said I have 20/40 vision, and I don't really need glasses, and beside I think if I wear glasses, I would be ugly. But now I can't see thing thats far away, but I can used to.

So how do I get glasses? Both of my parent have glasses, but for some reason I don't feel like talking to them.

Does contact lens cost more than glasses? And how much does it cost to get pair of glasses?

I heard to have to get some eye prescription first...

Can I just walk into a eye glasses, and order a pair of glasses?

Thanks so much!

  1. I have glasses since I was in grade 4! LOL But to get glasses all you need to do is get the doctor to write the "perscription" or the number of vision for both eyes. With that, all you have to do is go to any optical store and pick out the type you like. It will take about a 3 days to maybe a week to get them made, depending on the style and quantity.

Contacts seem to be cheaper but you have to keep getting more after awhile. If you want glasses it is going to be a little more expensive but you get to have them longer before you actually have to change them. Also if you don't look to good with glasses, I suggest getting frameless ones. They look great and you don't really notice them =D Another thing is maybe when your 20 you should save up for lazer eye surgery. Its better because you don't need glasses or contacts!

Really all you have to do is choose what suits your lifestyle. Like for me I like things to be simple and quick, so I find glasses better because there is no hassle of putting them in your eye, washing them or changing them. So I think you should talk to your parents about it and find whats right for you! =D

  2. Go to one of those places at the mall and get an eye exam, the optician will then write a prescription which you can get filled at their store, but unless you have a job,you better get your mom involved because without insurance you will be paying around 200.00.

  3. Contact lens do cost more than glasses....but hey at least you won't be ugly

  4. To get glasses, you have to firstgo get an eye checkup at an eye  place, they will give you your prescription so you know how powerful your glasses need to be. After that, you take the prescription to a place like Lenscrafters and you choose the glasses that you want, after a few hours they will be ready and you can start wearing them, although they will feel wierd for a couple days.

Glasses can range from 10 bucks to possibly 200 bucks.

Contact lenses are more expensive than glasses. A full year supply of contacts can cost around $500, but you will look better with them (I wear contacts).

    Good luck with your choice!

  5. don't be scared its okey just get glasses and you'll be fine

  6. You would need to go to an eye doctor or the eye glass place you are looking to buy the glasses from. They would have to give you an eye-examination to find out what prescription you would be.  Glasses typically cost more than contact lenses, but contacts usually have to be replaced more often. If your parents have medical insurance or any benifets from their jobs (if they work) then you might get a pair of glasses for free, or at a discounted price. Hope I could help!

  7. How do you get glasses!? Wow!

You go to the optometrist, they check your eyes and the machine will have a number that tells them where your eyes are at. They then take the numbers and give you either glasses or contacts at the proper strength for your eyes. Which one costs more depends on what kind you want and your insurance.

I went with $1000 frames and transition lenses, and then 4 boxes of Acuvue contacts for when I didn't want the glasses. All of which cost me $25 out of pocket thanks to Regence.

  8. You need to make another appointment and get a prescription for the glasses and then go and buy some. Contact lenses are less expensive but you have to buy them more often. Don't get glasses until you need them. Try not to use them for as long as you can because your eyes become weaker once you start using them.

  9. contact lenses cost less than glasses but you need glasses to have contact lenses it costs about 100 quid but if your english you can get em 4 free if you really want glasses sometimes suit ppl so give em a try and also wearing glasss for the first time is really amazing. You need to get a prescription first. also get cheap glasses to wear on your own so that you can get the contact lenses trust me its completely worth it.

  10. You need to  get your eyes re-tested at an optometrist

he will write a prescription that will allow the lens maker the right curvature for correcting your eye problem.

You take that prescription to any store that sells glasses, they will help you decide on frames and order your lenses.

Contacts  need good care, so as not to damage your eyes.

Ask about them if you want.

Same process for getting prescription is necessary.

  11. Go to and eye care place and get your eyes checked out by an optometrist.  They will tell you if you need glasses and then guide you through picking them out based on how much you want to spend.  The lenses of the glasses will be made specific to what your eyes need. The frames are the expensive part.  My glasses cost about $150 total but they can get very pricey depending on which frames you pick out.

  12. contacts cost more but their more convienient. like playing sports n such. but you can just walk in a buy glasses in an eye store n they find out ur vision to put in the glasses n order that also.

  13. You go to an eye doctor, get a prescription, go to a "lens crafters" or such, and get a pair of glasses filled.

  14. go to the eye doctor and see if you do. You won't be ugly if you get the right ones :)

  15. 1st off, glasses dont make you ugly!!! I wear them, and have done for 5 years but only for reading from a long distance and driving. If your parents wear glasses already, you will most likely need them as well... Think of glasses as making you feel more confident about yourself, and as people say, look more intelligent.

You should have regular eye tests at least every 2 years. If your eyesight has changed already, then i would suggest getting another eye test.

You cant just go and get glasses to help to see just like that, as the lenses need to be made to suit your eyes and if one eye is worse than the other then both lenses will be different.

You need a prescription, which you get after an eye test.

  16. you have to get your eyes checked by an eye doctor  this is where your parents are needed for medical insurance.
