How to get free or discounted air conditioning repairs/replacement...?

A friend of mine who is low income is suffering in 90 degree heat with no air conditioning. She has just fans, which do virtually nothing in a brick house. She can't affoard to get her central A/C unit fixed. She and her pets are getting sick in the intense heat. Is there any service that can help low income people with this kind of thing?

THOSE ELIGIBLE: People and families whose income meets those specified for the program; eligibility for the crisis program requires a referral from the County Assistance Office.

CONTACT: Your local Community Action Agency or Area Agency on Aging.

Also some churches do community outreach and may have someone as a member that would be willing to help her and her pets out.
