It was possible, but only for a little while.

Virgin had an offer 1000 points with whatever you bought in store. Since all you had to do was e-mail the automated e-mail address and you got 1000 lots of people exploited this; they never bought anything and sent lots of e-mails to the address banking them 1000's of free points!
