How to get from Amsterdam to Brugge, Belgium without making train reservation? Can I just get from airport to train station and buy a ticket on the same day?

  1. As mentioned in another answer, there is a rail station in Schipol airport and international trains going to Belgium stop there.

You can buy tickets from machines or from the booths. Most employees speak English and they are very helpful.

However, they do not accept foreign currency (i.e. other than Euro) and for some reason my credit card was not accepted.

I was able to exchange USD against Euro in the Amro Bank booth at the entrance to the station, but I had to wait for the opening hour, which meant a 2 hour delay for me.

Do not travel on a Thalys train, since it is more expensive than the Intercity train, but the tracks are the same and the Thalys runs on slow tracks and not at high speed.

You will have to connect at Antwerpen Centraal and board another local train to Brugge. Total travel time should be 2-3 hours.

    Welcome in Belgium

  2. train....

  3. Schiphol has the train station inside the terminal just as you are leaving the building on the ground floor.  There are ticket machines (in English) and also booths if you want to ask questions or buy from a person, all in the same area.

Then you just go down the escalator to the correct platform and hop onto the right train.  It's really easy!

You don't need a reservation but the price can vary of course (you can pick up cheaper fares if you book in advance) but to ensure you don't have a problem e.g. flight delay, then just buy on the spot when you arrive

You can look at the Dutch site (as this is where you will depart from) http://www.nshispeed.nl/en which is in English for the price & timetable information

    Best of luck

EDIT - Whoops I stand corrected :0)  Thanks Dr!!

I must admit I didn't check the schedule directly and didn't mention that there may be a connection, but if you use the site I mentioned it will still plan the journey for you including the change.

  4. Take this website just so you can at least see times

    http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/

Click on the circle marked International

Yes, Schiphol has a train station there, and you can definitely buy your ticket on site.

I have been at that train station at Schiphol and I never had an issue of not getting a seat on the train when purchasing same day. In fact, I prefer to do it that way so I don't feel the pressure of having to be on time for a particular train.  I get to the station when I get there, buy my ticket and people watch till its time to leave.

    Have fun!

  5. The first part of my good friend Bla Bla's answeris -as always correct. May I slightly alter the second part: you hop on the train to Antwerp- Brussels. (There are no trains from Adam to Brugge) In Antwerp Centraal you change trains and take a train going to Sint Niklaas-Gent- Brugge. Total time of the journey: 3 1/2 to 4 hours.
