I am an international student and this is my first time traveling to the US. I am carrying two pieces of bulky baggage with me and will be arriving around 6:30pm at JFK, NY.

1.Does anyone know if there is any cheaper way of getting from JFK airport to Spring St, Elizabeth, NJ?

2.How much am I supposed to pay if I take a taxi? Is the taxi in JFK metered or bargained?

My considerations in regard to my questions above:

1. I carry two pieces of luggage

2. I arrive at around 6:30pm

Thank you so much for your inputs. I asked the hotel but they could not really provide me any concrete answer as it is situated near the Newark Airport, not the JFK airport.

  1. well im around there and heading to nj i dont know if u like a ride or not i be glad to help out if needed

  2. My friend, the best and cheapest way to get from JFK to Spring Street in Elizabeth, NJ will be by public transit. Here's how to get from point "A" to point "B".

Step 1: take the JFK Airtrain from the terminal to Jamaica Station. Please listen for the announcement, "Station D: Jamaica Station."

Step 2: once at Jamaica Station, exit the Airtrain and transfer to the Long Island Railroad. Take any westbound train from Jamaica Station to Penn Station.

Now, the fare on the Airtrain is $5, which pay when exiting the system at Jamaica Station. A one way off peak  ticket on the LIRR is $5.25, please buy you ticket at the station before boarding.

Step 3: when you get to Penn Station, transfer to NJ Transit. Take either the Northeast Corridor Line or the North Jersey Coast Line from Penn Station to Elizabeth. A one way ticket from Penn Station to Elizabeth will cost you $9.75.

Now, since you are traveling on a different railway, you must purchase NJ Transit ticket at the station before boarding.

Step 4: when you get to Elizabeth, you can take a taxi from the train station to your final destination on Spring Street. The cab ride will cost you a few bocks, depend on how far you going.

I hope this information is very helpful.

    Good luck
