  1. There are two public entrances to the castle precincts, one by Henry VIII.'s Gateway on Castle Hill (a statue of Queen Victoria stands here), and the other by the Hundred Steps, which lead up to the Canons' Cloisters. Normally the public can enter the castle precincts by either way daily, from 9 a.m. till dusk.

Entrance ticket is arround 15£ per adult.

  2. Windsor isn't very far out of London - you can take a train or a coach

for the train look at www.thetrainline.com

for the coach look at www.nationalexpress.com

there are tours which will take you but it's so easy to get there on normal public transport I don't quite see the point

  3. Train definitely. Windsor Castle is pretty easy to reach from the station - you can't miss the castle itself, it absolutely dominates the landscape!

If memory servies there's two main train routes. There's a service from Waterloo station that runs every half hour and that goes direct to Windsor & Eton Riverside station. It takes a little less than an hour, and you don't have to change trains.

There's also service from Paddington that leaves every 20-30 minutes for Windsor. You do have to change trains at Slough, but the total journey time is only 35 minutes.

Check out the journey planner section of this site for more information : http://nationalrail.co.uk/index.html

  4. Burleigh Road / Windsor Avenue

Take the Route Bus U2 towards Hillingdon Hospital/Royal Lane

Lees Road / Pield Heath Avenue

Take the Route Bus U4 towards Bourne Avenue / Carnavon Drive

    Hayes & Harlington Station

Take the Route Bus 90 from Stop: E

    towards Feltham Leisure West

Take the Route Bus 555 from Stop: E

    towards Walton-on-Thames Rail Station

  5. Go to Victoria Coach Station.  Take the coach from London to Windsor and back.  Pretty frequent runs and stops very near the castle.  Don't know the current cost but it's not very expensive..
