  1. Read . Go to library and check out books on the things you learned in 8th grade and re read it. :)

  2. some of my best friends do cross country! watch what you eat in lunch (no pizza, nothing greasy) because by the time you run at the end of the day it won't sit so well. become friends with your coach and he'll help you with those kind of tips.

as for grades, go into every class with an open mind and you should do fine. teachers don't give you assignments because they're evil and want to pound you with work. try to have fun learning and the good grades will come easy.

  3. Let's be honest, the North American education system is designed (after its Prussian model) to crank out mindless worker drones, so success can be guaranteed by simple conformance to norms: go to class, listen attentively, take notes, and DO YOUR HOMEWORK.  Don't be afraid/ashamed to get a tutor if you actually want to understand what you're learning, but be warned: a lot of tutors suck, and aren't worthy of the title (titular abuse is extremely common in N.A.).

In the case of maths and similar more "theoretical" stuff, it's often sufficient just to memorize the homework problems and their solutions; a second-year calculus class in university I attended featured quizzes and even a final exam filled with questions lifted, AS IS, from the homework (the correct solutions to which had already been reviewed in class) -- no understanding required.

Get a comfortable notebook for each class (even if it's "expensive" -- don't be penny wise), get the recommended textbooks, and try to avoid distracting technology during class (e.g. a laptop brought "to take notes" often ends up as more of an instant-messaging apparatus).

Talk to your profs -- figure out which ones are just there to draw a paycheck, and which ones actually want you to learn something.

    Good luck!

  4. Create a planner (or buy one) and write in your daily class times and times of cross country practice. There you can figure out when you will have time to incorporate studying/homework. Do homework and study for each class and your grades will be fine. Don't miss any classes. :)

  5. Hi,

It is good that you want to start your freshman year on a right note :) Wished that I were like you.. It is really important to be organised and to prepare for the year in advance. An organiser to keep track of the dates of important deadlines is essential. Plan in advance how you would be able to keep up with the readings, assignments, etc by setting yourself deadlines.

Nevertheless, it is also important to associate with like-minded people who want to do well for the year. Such people would help you to stay focus on doing well amidst the distractions you have. You can also share notes that you make while reading up and this would make it easier for you and your pals. Of course, it would be good to get to know more seniors so that they can also guide you. Getting to know more people through orientation camps and clubs or activities in school is very important. But, do not get carried away with simply socialising and forgetting your main priority. (It is very easy to get distracted)

  6. okay listen plain and simple do your homework. thats it.in some of my classes we grade our homework from the night before, in class, the teacher takes down what we got and thats that. i've been to three different high schools and at each one of them 20 students didnt pass- because... they didnt do their homework. highschool is easy and you'll need a folder and a spiral notebook for each class- your english teacher might be crazy- your fisrt friend from highschool will be no one you'd expect, the food will suck(-in public schools) so pack your own lunch,do  the very best that you can becuase no matter what anyone says each year of highschool counts!!!-  also in december think about classes you'll take for your 10th grade year.

  7. It all depends on you but, I recommend getting a planner it helps me enormously and it will help you remember things better and keeps you organized.

Study tips: take notes, use highlighters on main points/important info.

Write done definitions of bolded words in textbooks on paper or index cards. taking notes on index cards is also great for review. Outline chapters in textbook using a format that suits you. Staying organized is a big key sucess.

Studying for a test: Depends on you. I never need to study but I pay attention in class. I would suggest reviewing a little every day before a test rather than craming though.

Organization wise A place for everything is good: starting with your binders for each class or if you use 1 big binder a divider for every class. Clor coding and labeling are great to. I also check/clean out my binders/bookbag every week to stay organized.

    Hope this helps! God Bless

  8. I went to do Cross Country and I couldn't do it. I was doing all GT classes in freshmen year, and this fall I am taking my first AP course. Get into sports, but I would stay away from school sports. It would be hard for you, no joke. You have to have the will to do it!
