Question:

How to get good loud sounds from speakers with the least add-ons.?

i just want to install a car amp and 4" speakers. and i did. but when a max out the volume the sound gives way when the bass starts to thump. everytime the bass comes the other sounds of the speakers gets scratchy. and i use an mp3 to drive my system. open to any suggestions. i want to go cheap but good enough.

  1. Definetly check the high/low pass filter on the amp and keep it high also you can buy bass blockers from crutchfield that keep that low bass from damaging your highs.


  2. you've got a few issues going on.  Some you may be able to fix and some you won't be able to fix.

    Things out of your control include ... clipping of your head unit after about 3/4 volume, limited amounts of power, quality of your speakers.

    Things you can control ... don't turn your deck up past 3/4 volume to keep it from clipping ... make sure your gain on your amplifier is properly set, Make sure your speakers are baffled properly, ensure you're wiring is top notch ... make sure your drivers are all in phase with each other and I don't mean all positives are connected properly and negatives are connected properly, I'm taking about audibly at the listening position, making sure they are in true phase with each other.  

    That's about as good as you're going to get.

  3. well, first check your amp. it should have high and low pass... if you are dealing with mid and tweets, then hit the high pass. but if your dealing with the subs, then definitely hit the low pass...
