both are very capital intensive and oly make sense on a fairly large scale.  A wind turbine for one or two house would be much muc too expensive.  You can buy pre-made solar panels for a house.

You could not make your own.  The equipment for make a solar panel from start (polysilicon) to finish (solar panel) is over $10,000,000.
