How to get into American Football?

Question

Hi - I'm based in the UK but have a new American boss based in the USA. He seems to think that sending us links to his blog which heavily feature US games will motivate us.

Well, I'm willing to meet him halfway on this and learn about the game. (I want to make an genuine effort on this as well as impress him doing my day to day work.) Could you point in the direction of the basics - seasons, teams, gameplay that sort of thing.

No problem.

first...think rugby. Then stop the game anytime something happens. Now add loads of padding so that the precious little soldiers dont hurt themselves. Finally, have three teams. Once for trying to score some points (touchdowns). One for stopping the other team scoring and one for kicking the ball (when that rarely happens).

Now split the field up into ten yard stripes and have 4 goes at running those 10 yards. If you do it, have another go until you finally reach the try line (end zone).

Now, employ the fattest men you can find, who miraculously made it through university despite not being able to write their own names, and you have a SPORT......GOoooooooooooOOOOO Team!

Tell your boss you arent interested in his silly sports and that you would like bank holidays off. Then buy him a ManU shirt and a ticket for the Kop end at Anfield. Haha.

I think the best way to "get" football is to actually watch a game. The more you watch, the more interested you (might) get, and the more you will understand it. Its harder if you don't have a team you particularly care for, but once you get into it its awesome! There is nothing better than kicking back, drinking beer & watching your team play....

Go to ladbroke's and drop 50 quid on a game that you can watch.  You will learn about it quicker than any other method.

go to a bar during a cowboys or eagles game...you'll learn alot there and also tips on how to yell at refs and new vocabulary

I agree with BAGS.  If you want to accelerate your absorbtion of football knowledge put a couple frogskins on a game.  You'll learn real quick.
