Hi. How are you? :) I hope that you are fine.

I am a home-schooled student. I quit a high school because of some reasons. (please don't get me wrong. I did not do bad things in a high school.)

1) I heard that it is very hard for home-schooled students to get into universities in America.

Is that true?

2) If a home-schooled student who takes GED, SAT1, SAT2, and ACT and extracurricular work, it is possible for this person to get into ivy league school?

(Let us suppose that the person gets great scores from those exams.)

3) Should home-schooled students explain why they quit a high school?

Well, can religion be a good reason for home schooling? (a devoted Christian.)

4) Is it harder for home-schooled students who do not go to a high school to get into Ive league with Scores from GED, SAT, SAT2, and AP?

5)How do home-shooled students get into Ivy league ?

(Could you please tell me in detail?)

I hope that you have a nice day today. :D

Thank you for reading queries.

  1. 1) Don't know where you heard that, but it isn't true.

    2) A homeschooled student shouldn't need the GED at all. As for the other tests, what they need will depend on the individual school. ANY student can get great scores on those exams and it may not be enough as there may be other admissions requirements that aren't met.

    3) There's no need to explain why you left school. If you are homeschooling legally, not just a drop-out, then you didn't quit school, you simply switched schools.

    4) Probably not.

    5) The same way as everybody else, with perhaps some small differences. Contact the schools you are interested in and find out from them personally. I could give you as many details as I know, but you should always get this type of information direct from the school--things change and people don't always stay on top of the changes, or people make mistakes. :)

  2. To add to Glurpy's great answer...

To gain college admittance when HS'ed, these are the main requirements:

    * A required SAT and/or ACT score (other tests help boost your application)

    * A high school portfolio of work

    * A transcript

There is no need for a GED, you didn't "drop out", you simply transferred to HS'ing.  You'd only be a drop out if you aren't currently studying.

There is no need for a high school diploma.

Another thing that helps is taking community college classes for "dual credit" (high school *and* college).  Then you enter your first year of a university as a sophomore or higher.

Regardless of schooling type for high school, the test scores, portfolio, transcript, and volunteer/paid work experiences are much more important.
