How to get into acting?

I've sent out all sorts of letters with my headshot and resume, no returns. I've sent into agents, casting directors, everyone. I really want to be on television and in movies, even as an extra but there's no work where I am. I know a lot of people make it on television from Texas, even the smaller cities and I live here...I've been in all sorts of productions in theatre such as The Wiz as Dorothy; honk jr as dot, the soloist and Ida's understudy; anne frank as anne; cinderella kids as a town crier, even peter pan as a dancer. I've also been in 2 commercials...I'm not drop dead gorgeous but I am pretty enough to get good roles...so my question is how can I get into professional acting? I have a private voice teacher already and can't go to workshops or camps because my mom thinks everything is a scam. SO WHAT CAN I DO? I MUST BE TALENTED TO GET LEADS...

  1. There is a new nationwide service that allows anyone to be in a commercial doing whatever they want for up to 54 seconds. Make a video promoting yourself and send it to them. For a reasonable price, they will turn your video into a commercial then place it on any TV station you request, any time and in any city.  You decide how often your commercial airs.  If I were you, I'd request my commercial air in Hollywood, California.  The possibility of producers seeing it on TV are extremely good!   Their website is http://timeformetv.com

    Good luck

  2. ummmm...first u need to get a agent then u need professional picture and before all of those steps type in www.casting-call us/ acting-auditions

  3. Plays, Musicals, Acting school, Acting lessons, Acting camp, College courses, etc.

  4. No one ensures you success (only scammers!). And even more, you have to define “success”. First, make yourself clear if you want either a JOB or an artistic activity that will make you happy. If you want to be "famous" to make money, you should differentiate that being notorious is not necessary being talented, or, even worse, it will make you compromise many ethical things that you might not like to do or act in plays that you dont really like. The commercial circuit not always cross roads with the pure artistic lane, so you have to be focused in what you deeply wish. Be professional. Fame is something that can or cannot be there, but at least you will do what nurture you. Best of luck.

  5. get. an. agent. if you want an absolutely reputable one (let me warn you, it's expensive) go to sag.org.

but if you've been doing what you say you have with no luck, an agent is the only way in. :)

    good luck!

  6. I find actinginfo.blogspot.com to be extremely helpful.  Definitely keep sending in to agents, you'll need one.  ANY agent that makes you pay up front is a scam, a real agent won't ask for any pay until he gets you a gig and YOU get paid.  Make sure your headshots are professional and keep your cover letter short.  You should also give all of the agents you submit to a quick follow-up call to make sure they got  everything you sent.  I'm looking to get some work or an agent, too, so good luck!

  7. You answered your own question.  There is no work where you are.  Yes, some famous actors were BORN in Texas or in a small town.  But they moved to LA or NY.  Fame did not come looking for them.  Your mom is smart.  Most acting things for kids are scams.  If you want to persue acting as a career when you're an adult you can.  For now, keep on doing what you're doing.
