  1. Unless you know a lot about coins and have the cash you don't. One must know the market and that takes years of training under someone that does. I have been a numismatist for a long time and do a little buying and selling but I know the coin market. One can lose all their money real fast on bad buys. I expect you would not ask this question if you knew the coin market so best to be taken under the wing of a good coin dealer.

  2. Will 1st you wont to get you a "2008 The Official Red Book of United States Coins!" Look for the same kind of book for world coin values.

And then start looking up old coins on eBay, Flea Market, Yard Sales and other please where you mite find old & weard coins.

Then look them up in your coin value book(s) and if you get luck you mite run across a coin woth $10,000, $100,000 or more.

And look at the money you get every day NEW coins with miss prints like "duble dates", "No ment mark"  ect... can be worth more then old coins.

I have not collected coins in about 15 years but I remember this....

Back in the civil war they needed copper for the war so they tock it from the US Ment's stock. So very ful pennys got made dearing the war. So any penny from the civil war years (About 1861 I thank) are very rare and very valueble.

(I have not study coins in about 15 years so my memery may not be 100% with that story about the penny. So look it up or the coin book mite tell you it.)
