I really want to get involved with things that happen in my community and in the world. I want to help people in need.... and i'm sure that I can do it. But I don't know where to look.... I don't want to do something common... like a hospital or church... I want something different.

Any Ideas?????? Where to look????

  1. www.thepencilproject.com

You can help the most kids this way by helping them get a fair shot at education.. It is the only way out of poverty for them. The project is easy, fun and you're right...you CAN make a difference!

  2. some stuff i do is:

    -red cross

    -read to kids at library

    -tutor at ememantary school

    -beach/city clean up

-walk and feed dogs at animal shelter*

    -serve food at soup kitchen

    -hospital volunteer*

    -entertain at senior center

*must be 16 or older to do

the good thing is, most cities offer these kinds of things, give or take.

try some of those stuff....i think they're all fun..but my favorite is helping out at the childrens ward at the hospital.

  3. You don't say where you are. I'm assuming the USA. If so, you can find a huge selection of volunteering opportunities at any of these web sites:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site, http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

There's also this government sponsored site, http://volunteer.gov/gov/ which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc.

If you want to be a volunteer to help with the consequences of a natural disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina, you need to register and prepare NOW. Here's a web site where you can register and start your preparation so that you can help the next time disaster strikes:

    http://www.helpindisaster.org/

Project Gutenberg is always looking for online volunteers to proofread texts which are made freely available to the world. Volunteering for Project Gutenberg is something you can do from your home.

    http://www.gutenberg.org/

LibriVox is a nonprofit effort that mobilizes volunteers to record chapters of books in the public domain. LibriVox then publishes the audio files on the Internet, via its web site. The goal is to record all books in the public domain. Volunteering for LibriVox is something you can do from your home. You can listen to free audiobooks recorded by volunteers, or volunteer to record yourself reading a chapter of a book in the public domain to share with everyone, by going to the LibriVox web site:

    http://librivox.org/

And if you have skills in web design, translating, business strategy development, proposal writing, and other areas of expertise, you can try http://www.onlinevolunteering.org

  4. You can help clean up a park, or paint a moral with your friends and nabors, help out at a blooddrive, help to feed people at a homeless shelter, or something like that.
