  1. FLMom is correct.

Not all cabins can accomodate more than two people. If it can, you can sail for a 3rd pax rate, usually a lot cheaper than full fare. If it can't, family members might need to upgrade to a different category which could increase their fare considerably. If there's only one person in the cabin and they're paying a single supplement, it could reduce what they are paying.

Most lines will accomodate these kinds of changes, particularly if you haven't yet reached the deadline for penalty-free cancellation.

The cruise line or your travel agent can answer definitely.

  2. When you book a cruise you must give personal info such as your name, birthdate, passport #, etc... You can not just get a ticket to enter the ship and then stay in someone's cabin. All this must be completed before the trip. So, the family member that is going will need to add you to his or her cabin and then you will be charged for that.

  3. Its not like a train, you cannot just get a ticket.

  4. The only cruise you can go on without a cabin would be a "Cruise to nowhere" that would last less than 18 hours. Sometimes, these are also called a booze cruise. They are popular in states that prohibit gambling, since there is a casino on board, with exception for Disney, which is the only cruise line without casinos.
