How to get local forcast on Direct TV?

While at my inlaws house we watched the Weather channel to get the local forcast, but it doesn't give YOUR local forcast. It's like surrounding cities, traveling and so on. Why is it so different than the weather channel on Cable? It's "the weather channel". She'd like to get local on the 8's. Anyway.... Can you program your remote to get local information by putting in your city or zipcode? If so, please tell me how so I can program her remote. Thank you.

Some DirecTV model receivers can. If you have one of the Universal White receivers, there should be an ACTIVE button. If you press that and your receiver is capable, it should bring up lots of nifty stuff (lottery numbers and horiscope, etc)
