I have 2 12" kenwood w3011s. just got home from competition. won 2nd :). Some smokin girl won (who knew they were into audio). My subs are in a sealed box and i noticed tehy were inaudible at some tones. I couldn't tell because we had to use their cd. Do I need a new box or new subs. Thanks

  1. Check these sites out...it is a good reference.

If your headlight dims with the bass notes, this might work.  If not an H.O. alternator will be needed, or else be prepared to pour a lot of $$$ for batteries.

This site explains the "BIG 3" upgrades.

  2. Need more details. Are you working as a producer? What competition is that, that you need subs that can work to tones you require?

Different subs have different frequency ranges. Audition your sound products and get what you need for ranges that you work with?

    Cheers

  3. Where's the pictures of the smokin' girl?

Seriously, what frequencies were inaudible?  To help with the fine tuning for competitions, you might want to look at getting a serious 1/3-octave EQ.  Audiocontrol makes a pretty good one, for example.

  4. If you port your subs you'll gain at least 3 db.  Depending on how you build and tune the box, you could gain more.  If you're going for SPL, you'll definitely want a ported box.  New subs wouldn't hurt either.  Kenwoods are not competition subs.  Congrats on the 2nd place btw.
