How to get more backspin?

How to get more backspin on my chips i have the cleveland cg12 54* but when i chip form about 5 feet off the green i dont seem to get any back spin

The thing that I was told, and it did help me, was to try and hit the front of the ball and not the back of the ball. Obviously you can't actually hit the front of the ball (the side facing the green) but this will force you to hit the ball first and not hit behind the ball. It also helps you to hit down on the ball letting the loft and the grooves of your club to do the work. This also helps when you are trying to spin a ball with your full wedge shots. You should be able to take divots after hitting the ball this way.

Easy pinch the ball, and do not break the wrists, also shorten the follow through, this will send the ball on its way with a lower trajectory that you will think will run off the back, but it will check hard.  This does take lots of practice to do. If you try this for the first time on a golf course you are going to bogey a lot of holes.

open your stance, move ball back off right toe, hit dowm with open club face . do not allow the head to get ahead of the shaft . no soin rough without wide open face .

You're not supposed to get backspin from chip shots that are 5 feet off the green. You really just want it to check.

Now if you're looking your ball to check or have backspin with your wedges, you want to put the ball a little farther in your stance and focus on hitting the bottom half of the ball. With pitch shots, you want to avoid releasing and making a big follow through.

If you really want to get technical, you can change the club face on your wedges every couple of weeks. It prevents a huge buildup of grass and other unwanted stuff in your wedge face.

First make sure you are hitting under the ball, try to pretend that the very bottom of the club just goes directly under th ball, and make sure you maintain your follow through as if you are guiding that the ball, hopefully this should give you your desired effect
