How to get more torque? (97Honda Accord non Vtec. Sohc)

My car has 140 ft·lbf (188 N m) @ 4200 rpm what can i put on the car so it can help it up(something affordable) will cold air intake or exhaust help??

  1. yes, both will help though it may shift the torque curve up higher.  Also, a 4-2-1 header will help too and advance the timing a couple degrees and run mid-grade gas.  All these mods together should get you about 10 more ftlb and about 15 hp.


  2. Well you can add a cold air intake, catback exhaust & headers and you might gain a few HP and torque, but nothing drastic. Keep in mind just because your car was factory rated at 140 ft/lb torque doesn't mean you actually have that much, your probably at a little less from engine wear, and if its 140 at the engine, then you lose even more to the drive terrain. But add a CAI, Catback & Headers, you'll get a better sound and a little more hp + torque. The thing to remember about the Accord is, its a family car. It wasn't meant to pick up fast, it was meant to be drive a small family around comfortably.

    As far as prices go, for decent parts:

    CAI = $150+

    Catback Exhaust = $350+

    Headers = $250+
