Ok so, My friend is doing a movie project for school, something with Huckleberry Finn. So this camcorder she used uses those small DVD's, similar to the gamecube game discs. So, when i put this disc onto my computer it has .VOB, .BUP and .IFO files, which are all the DVD media files and what not. I try to open them and it comes up with the message "Windows cannot open the file" To open the file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer. Then i select windows media player and it says i need a DVD decoder. Where can i get this? Please help, really need these movie files onto my computer so i can edit the film. post any questions you have and I will try my best to answer them

  1. If you have a mini dvd camcorder….

You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer 's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (i downloaded handbrake file converter free) and import them into your editing program. Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away.

  2. Editing from a DVD camcorder is annoying, because, well, most programs are made for editing miniDV cassette tapes. I have a DVD camcorder and it frustrated me for years, but I have finally found an answer. I do not know if a DVD decoder would work, but I am sure that there is an easier, and probably cheaper way. For me, editing from a miniDVD was unexpectedly easy with a program developed by Ulead. I have tried it, and it has worked on the Ulead Movie Factory, but I recommend the Ulead Video Studio. It is an inexpensive program that is suited for DVD media formats. It's quite simple. All you have to do is finalize your DVD on your camcorder, it may be any kind: -R, RW, RAM...what have you.

Once it is finalized, simply insert the DVD into the E-Drive (the CD/DVD drive in the computer), and launch Ulead. Create a new project and once the program opens and the editing window appears, look for a button that says something like, "Import footage from Video DVD". On my version, it is a little button on a tab at the top of a screen that is a little DVD icon. You can select the video files from the DVD to import into the program for editing. Ulead is not the best program out there, and doesn't have the best editing tools, but it is very good, much better than Windows Movie Maker or iMovie at least....

Ulead is most likely available at your typical electronics store, such as Best Buy.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!!!
