I just got a love bird a few days ago and I have been noticing some bad habits. Every time I try to pet her she flies away, she tries to bite everything that gets in front of her, and she seems to like to be the highest and she always goes for my head and won't get off. How do I fix all of these bad habits?

  1. As for the flying away and biting, this is most likely because you only purchased the bird a few days ago. Depending on the bird, it can take a week to a month or two for them to become comfortable in their new homes. She's probably just a bit uncomfortable and frightened right now.

As for the wanting to be the highest, that is a natural instinct for birds. In nature, they are prey animals and therefore feel vulnerable and unsafe when they're in the open or on the ground. You may be able to train her to stay off your head by removing her gently every time she goes up there and trying to make her more comfortable somewhere else. But that is something all birds do and seeking out the highest perch possible is an instinct.

I suggest giving her some time to settle into her new home, and just be patient:) With some time to get accustomed to her new surroundings, she will learn to love you I'm sure.
