  1. Use your legs and taunt use of rein

  2. leg! and lots of practice. You're trainer will also help you a lot with this if you are having a hard time with concept

  3. go to a farm and to the stable and get a horse

  4. Lots of leg, don't loose your contact with the outside rein and then tweek with the inside rein (like turning on the keys to the car).

The leg keeps them moving forward, outside rein keeps balance and tweek causes flexion at the poll. That's just a very brief explanation!

Good luck - happy riding :)

  5. Think of it as driving the back end of your horse forward toward the bit. At a trot, start giving strong leg cues.  At first the horse will speed up, and you  will tighten the reins as you continue to use leg pressure to drive him forward.  It helps to sit deep in your saddle and use long stirrups.  Don't try to position his head...let him reach for the bit and gradually tighten the reins as you continue to drive him forward with strong leg pressure.  You will be working him between your hands and your legs, gradually tightening the reins more as you continue to drive him forward, and you'll feel him round his back upward.  When he can sustain the frame he is in, with his back elevated, and with good contact on the bit, he is working "on the bit".

When I refer to tightening the reins, I mean using your finger to take up the slack...very subtle and your fingers wil be opening and closing on the reins with the horse's head movement.
