How to get my horse to respond to leg presure?

i do barrel racing and she wont listen to leg presure to turns or switch leads everytime i add presure she cro-hops. what do i do?

  1. like the first poster said...make sure nothing is wrong with her first. If nothing is make sure that your using your lower leg and not your feet or spurs to ask your horse to turn... but after that its just constant work. Everytime you turn her use your reins but at the same time use your legs... she isnt going to learn this over night and it should take a few months for her to understand what your asking.... you have to ask her the same way every exact time and you just have to keep doing it and doing it and when she's doing good praise her.


  2. make sure its not a health thing (my mare bucked me off, we found out she had a cyst on her ovary). try doing ground work where you press where your knee would be, to move her shoulders. press where your heel would be, to move her hips. useing a crop will hepl if shes stubborn.    

  3. I know you don't want to hear this, but she needs to go back to square one and be trained to the aids, and not even be cantered, much less run barrels, until she is properly trained.
