Question:

How to get off greasy vaseline stain on shirt?

I had a brand new shirt on (cotton) and I got Vaseline (petroleum jelly) on it. It was just a tiny stain so I just got it wet and put it through the washer and dryer hoping that would take care of it. But now I took it out and I see the stain is still there! It's small but it's right on the chest area so I would REALLY appreciate any help with how to get the stain out! Since I already put it through the dryer, is it a lost cause?

  1. You can rub some Simple green, Castrol Purple Degreaser or some hand cleaner into the spot, allow to sit 10 minutes then wash as usual in cool water. It should come right out. You can find all three of these products in the automotive dept. They are all gentle enough that they will not harm your fabrics too. And none of them have a horrible smell that will make you run, it is very pleasant indeed.

  2. Use a degreaser.  I find that "greased lightning orange power" works the best.  Spray it on and let it set for 10 to 20 minutes and then wash as usual.

  3. Try washing it with lestoil.  Stinks like h**l but it works.  Pretreat the spot first.

  4. Make a paste of a liquid dish soap, such as Dawn, and baking soda. Apply it directly to the stain and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Launder as usual.
