Question:

How to get our dogs to get along with cats?

We have always had cats. But when we brought our new pup into our house both dogs were viciously attacking our cats. Both cats died because our dogs would take them by their neck and just use them as a rag doll. We really miss cats but don't want to bring any more cats in just to danger their lives. It's been almost a year without cats and we miss them. Is there a way not to get our dogs to attack them? They do know basic commands but around cats act like your not there. Please help! We want to adopt a cat from the shelter sooooo bad!

  1. Get a stuffed animal cat that moves (you can get them for about 5 to 10 dollars) or a cheaper one that doesn't. (more effectively rub the stuffed one near a real cat (a neighbors or someones) and the dog will smell the cat)

Then place the cat with near the dog.

Hold back the dog and until it sits still. Give him praise and a treat.

Keep doing this until the dog just stays still.

Then place the cat right next to him.

    Repeat above steps.

For more, get a fishing line, tie to stuffed cat, pull fishing line near dog, if the dog doesnt run or bite it, your ready to save a cat and PLEASE GET IT FROM THE SPCA OR POUND!

  2. What breed of dog are they? I'm so sorry about your cats dying. If you want to chance another cat get a full grown one maybe from a shelter where they can tell you if it got along with dogs. Never, never leave them alone together and always have leashes and choke collars on your dogs when they are within sight of the cat. If your dogs know basic commands then you should be able to train them to get along with their "own" cat anyway. I would ask the person who helped you train your dogs what is the best way.

  3. everytime your dogs see a cat give them a treat so he would related cats to good stuff and w/ time the attacks are going to stop!
